This month’s player of the month is …
It`s hump day on a dry news day that`s being ruined by the deluge coming down from the sky; a good a time as any to give out the Vital Rochdale Player of the Month Award for August.
It`s a tough call this time out; it`s always hard to pick a winner when the team are losing. With that in mind the win against QPR, the only win this season, seems to be a good place to find somebody who hasn`t been below par.
It could well be Gary Jones, but then it could well be Gary Jones every month he`s ever played; Mr Consistent who studied consistency at Constant University. His chip against QPR showed his undoubted class , and how lucky we are that he`s nobody from the Championship has ever bothered watching any video of his outside of his time at Barnsley.
Joe Widdowson has been solid so far, no mean feat in a defence that wouldn`t look out of place in an Arsenal shirt at times. The fact he can`t be singled out for blame for any goals conceded makes the best defender this month, and also shows a sad state of affairs. His performances wouldn`t be too hard to replicate by those around him.
However, Vital Rochdale love it when a player takes a chance and Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro has certainly done that. A less than super sub under Keith Hill, the Frenchman has taken his chance and started to score goals. 3 in 8 might not be prolific but if he can keep that form up and end the season with 20 goals it might be the edge that keeps us up.
Congratlations Jean-Louis. Agree or disagree with our assessment? Get commenting below.
I reckon Gary Jones, but like you said, it could be him any time, so in the interest of fairness I think you might be right
