The worst kept secret at Rochdale seems to be slowly being made public. Chris Beech is to be given the manager`s job until the end of the season.

Sky Sports are reporting that the 37 year old will be given the chance to follow Keith Hill, and help Rochdale out of a relegation dogfight.

He`s not setting his goals that low though. Speaking to the MEN Beech said: “I enjoy what all football fans enjoy, the Brazilian and Barcelona models. I want to play through units, fast passing, intelligent energy.”

We`re not sure what ‘intelligent energy,` but it has to be better than stupid energy.

Beech though is realistic enough to dash any expectations he might have made straight away. “We probably won`t be able to play the football that I ultimately want us to but we will strive towards it and in doing so I am sure we will see better moments.”

Kick and rush with the occasional nice pass it is then.

Beech led the academy team to a league title last year, although that was Steve Eyre`s main CV item as well. Beech, however, is believed to be the antithesis to Eyre`s personable style, and could well oversee a return to the Keith Hill days of the stick, rather than the carrot, being the main form of motivation.

Here`s hoping he can copy some of Hill`s results too.
