Tomasz Cywka and Jack O’Connell have now departed Spotland and returned to their parent clubs following the expiry of their loan spells.

Moving to us from Blackpool, Cywka made four appearances in total during his time here, coming to us once more from Blackburn, O’Connell added a further 19 starts to his Rochdale total, scoring three times.

Speaking to the Official Site manager Keith Hill wanted to thank both players for their efforts and he explained that it was now time for us to move on.

‘Tomasz has gone back now. I don’t want to stand in the way of the likes of Callum Camps, who has been exceptional on the training pitch – that has been evident over the last month. I’ve got to look at Billy Hasler-Cregg as well and prepare them players for next season.’

As for fan favourite and the much relied upon O’Connell, the gaffer added.

‘We do need another defender, there’s no question about that, but it’s probably a game of poker. I’m not too sure whether we’ve run out of opportunity with recruiting or retaining Jack. He’s obviously gone back and is part of the first team squad there.’

Hill says that with Blackburn being under an embargo, they are going to have trouble recruiting players so their manager may want to keep O’Connell on side in case he’s needed as with the experience he’s gained with us, clearly he could become a very valuable member of the squad given his talent, so that might close the door to another deal.

‘But he’s a player that we would always embrace and open the doors to for his return. In my estimations he’s an exceptional player and he’s a player I’d like to recruit, but barring Jack, I have to look at other alternatives because I can’t always get Jack back.’
