Rochdale’s second pre season friendly of the summer ended in defeat at the Shay Stadium and manager Keith Hill will be slightly disappointed as he made a number of changes from the game against Flyde, and did bring in more experience.

We started the match with Josh Lillis, Brian Barry-Murphy, Sean McGinty, Michael Rose, Ollie Lancashire, Peter Vincenti, Matty Lund, Ian Henderson, George Donnelly, Joe Bunney, Matty Done and Andy Cannon all taking to the field, with the substitute selection being comprised of Callum Camps, Scott Tanser, Bastien Hery, Ashley Eastham and trialist Cameron Park.

Rochdale did have the first chance of the game, but but Halifax took the lead after only seven minutes, and as we failed to clear a corner, a deflected shot off Lancashire was enough to wrong foot Lillis between the sticks and they had the advantage and were on top.

After about 30 minutes we finally got a proper foothold in the game and started to show what we were capable of, and we did have a number of chances at this stage, but non were taken clinically enough for us to draw level.

Hill decided against changes at the half time break, so we re-entered the second 45 a goal down and looking to build on the improvement we had shown towards the end of the first period.

It’s difficult to say Rochdale improved in the second period, as it was much a case of how we ended, lots of possession but no end product and in that spell Halifax had a few chances to have doubled their lead, and in the end they did so from another corner.

Hill then made some changes to freshen things up with Callum Camps coming on for Joe Bunney and Joe Rafferty replacing BBM.

This did give us renewed impetus and Camps did go on to be a thorn in their side causing a number of problems for them. Chances did then fall at this point, but again we just weren’t clinical enough and our goal came right at the death with Camps predictably being the one who scored it.

Hill will definitely be looking for improvements over the coming week.
