Manager Keith Hill has spoken following the official confirmation that Scott Hogan has moved on to Brentford, and whilst he obviously has disappointment following the loss of a player he rates highly, he’s also pleased for Hogan because he feels he’s made the perfect move to really help him kick on further in his career.

Speaking to the Official Site the gaffer explained.

‘I believe he has chosen a really good management team. The chairman or the owner of Brentford, has big plans and I believe he has chosen a really good team, as well as a football club. I think it will be relatively easy for him to slip into their side because they’re similar in their principles to the way that we want to play. I think it’ll be a great fit for Scotty and I also think it’ll be a great fit for Brentford.’

The gaffer goes on to say that Rochdale certainly held their ground in the deal and that is why the speculation took control and the deal took so long to complete, and Brentford weren’t the only club in for him, so we maximised the return to make it a good deal on our terms, and he rubbishes other reports that suggest we buckled and didn’t secure a good deal here that was in our interests.

He also adds that Scott’s versatility and ability to do more than one role, means that really he is now going to have to take that money and secure at least two replacements and that’s testament to how valuable he was for us.

‘I’m so pleased for Scotty, he deserves it. The last two or three weeks have been tough due to a lot of speculation, but it’ll make him stronger. I wish him all the best.’

As for the fee received, Hill also confirms that that will be used to secure the future of the club and it won’t be added to his playing budget because he already believes he has sufficient room left to get in the targets he will now have made to replace Hogan.

‘We have a budget and I still have room to recruit up to four players plus loan players, but I believe after witnessing Saturday that we have the nucleus of a very good young squad. I do need replacements for Scott, no question, and I maybe need one or two more faces to freshen the whole place up, but we’ll do it by sticking to our financial plan.’

At least with whatever the Hogan fee was going into the bank account, it can be called upon if needed for a specific target who made make a very good difference to the first eleven, and failing that, if needed, for use in January.
