Manager Keith Hill has hailed the quality of the players and thanked them for their efforts across the course of the whole season despite our defeat to Newport County yesterday.

Speaking to the press following our 2-1 defeat, Rochdale still finished in third place in the league but we couldn’t quite reach the title, but that wasn’t a source of disappointment for the gaffer, he was just delighted with our ‘remarkable’ season and delighted with what we had achieved in terms of promotion.

‘Realistically we should have been below mid table but what we’ve done is fantastic. To bring this group together and achieve what we have achieved is really special.’

Hill goes on to say that given the fact we have had a small budget this season, to achieve what we have done in the league and have the Cup run we did, is a remarkable achievement, and everybody at the club has worked extremely hard for this and taken ‘financial sacrifices’ so they really deserve everything they have got this season.

‘It’s absolutely brilliant, our fans were superb, everyone has supported the cause all season.’

Hill goes on to say that he’s going to make a ‘massive song and dance’ about the financial implications for the club now because he knows we have spent dramatically less than teams that have finished far below us this season, and he knows next season is going to be a struggle as well on the money front, as well as on the pitch, but given what we have achieved this year he know’s we are going to continue to be successful because the lads are ‘honest and (he) trusts them.’

Going into next season it will be all about surviving, and it doesn’t matter if we do that via goal difference or a point, just keeping our League One status will be enough and from there hopefully anything else will be a bonus and we can continue to grow in all directions.
