Rochdale’s League 1 season continued with a defeat against Burton at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday.

Experienced campaigned Beavon (24) scored what proved to be the winner in the first half for Burton to give the home side a one-nil win over Rochdale.

Defeat sees Dale remain in the sixth and final play-off spot, at this early stage, with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s Burton rising up to third!

The other results at the weekend were as follows:-

Saturday 12th September
Barnsley 4-1 Swindon
Burton 1-0 Rochdale
Chesterfield 3-3 Colchester
Crewe 1-3 Millwall
Fleetwood 1-1 Bradford
Gillingham 2-1 Blackpool
Oldham 1-5 Peterborough
Port Vale 3-2 Wigan
Scunthorpe 1-0 Coventry
Sheff Utd 1-3 Bury
Southend 0-1 Shrewsbury
Walsall 2-0 Doncaster

Looking at these results the stand out ones have to be the wins for Barnsley, Peterborough and Bury!

Barnsley, having lost the previous two in League 1, reacted to falling behind to Swindon, who had been unbeaten, by storming back to win at Oakwell in the end. A win would have been a good result as it was but to win four-one makes it an even better result.

Having sacked boss Robertson before the game Peterborough, as so often happens, reacted to thrash Oldham five-one at Boundary Park….a result that cost Oldham boss Kelly his job with him sacked after the defeat!

The result of the weekend, which could be argued I suppose, has to be the win Bury had at Bramall Lane against the form side in League 1 Sheffield United. The win was made all the more impressive with this coming as the Shakers as the visitors to the Blades.

Dale are back in action this weekend with a League 1 game against Scunthorpe at Spotland as Mellon looks for a reaction.
