With automatic promotion secured and a top three finish now guaranteed, Rochdale still have a chance of securing the league title.

It’s only goal difference keeping us off top spot at the moment, and manager Keith Hill knows that if we can take the victory against Newport we have given ourselves every chance to capitalise on a slip up by Chesterfield as they have to face fourth place Fleetwood Town and win, to take the title themselves.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game Hill said.

‘The plan is to be successful at Newport. It’s (title) certainly the aim but whatever happens, what we’ve achieved this season shouldn’t be diluted. We’ve got an unbelievable opportunity this weekend, but having said that, fair respect to Newport. They’ve had an excellent first campaign back in the league.’

Hill says that the best way to reach our hopeful aim of the title is to give Newport the full respect they deserve and in turn both Chesterfield and Scunthorpe, because he knows Newport will be looking to finish on a high themselves, and obviously our colleagues in the top three will all be going for the title themselves, so it’s a game we have to approach properly and look to perform properly in as well.

‘We’ve got to focus on Saturday’s game. The season isn’t over yet, but we’re hoping to go there and put in a really good performance, which will hopefully merit and rewards us with three points.’

Not much we can do about the goal difference really as it would take one hell of a result for us to overcome that, we just have to try and make sure we get the win and then we’ve done all we can.
