20 year old defender Jack O’Connell has returned to Spotland on a loan deal that will expire at the end of the season.

Having moved on from Blackburn Rovers on deadline day, he signed a new deal with Brentford and they have now authorised his loan back to us for further game time to aide his development.

The deal went through in time for him to figure in last night’s three two loss to Walsall, and having started on the bench he did come on 26 minutes into the game as a replacement for Tanser as the gaffer Keith Hill made a double change as we found ourselves three nil down inside of the opening 22 minutes of the first half.

This will be his third spell with the club, having made 19 starts, scoring three times during a loan spell earlier this season between September and January, and last season he played a huge part in our promotion success making 45 appearances across all competitions.

He has asked for the No 22 shirt.
