We`ve signed a player, and he`s not from Accrington!

John Coleman has obviously been reading Vital Rochdale, and decided to follow our advice, namely that players who guided Stanley to 14th might not be of the calibre needed to push Rochdale into the playoff spots.

So, he`s signed a striker who was relegated. Not quite what we had in mind, but he`s ours now, so let`s welcome George Donnelly.

The 23 year old scored 7 goals in 32 games for the Silkmen last year, and that prolific form has seen him Dale snap him up for a fee believed to be around £15,000. It was technically an ‘undisclosed 7 figure sum,` but £15,000 is covered by that and we believe it could be that, so we`re on safe journalistic ground with our guess.

George (can`t have a player called George, and then use his last name) may not have been signed from Accrington, but he is from Liverpool originally, so won`t need a John Coleman work permit.

The manager is very pleased with his signing.

“I`m delighted to have landed George (see, even the manager calls him George – GEORGE GEORGE GEORGE). I`ve been tracking him for a long time and to secure his signature so early in the close season is fantastic.”

“He`s not 24 until the end of the month (anybody who`s played Football manager knows that`s when players stop improving) so he is still relatively young and has lots of potential. He`ll fit in well here and will be a real asset to the club. I`m really looking forward to working with him.”

He has a tattoo sleeve on each arm, so he`s obviously aiming for the top, but he`ll have to make do with Rochdale for the next two years that he`s signed up for.

Welcome to Spotland George. Looking forward to seeing you banging them in.
