Dale have completed the signing of Halifax striker Jon Shaw on a two year contract.

Rumours had been rife all day that a striker was to be unveiled with many suggesting Glenn Murray would be making a quick return to Spotland. There was talk of the Chairman stating we would be signing a ’24 year old who is proven at this level’ which led to the Murray rumours. However it would seem that particular rumour was slightly wide of the mark, although the age was right I guess!

Shaw arrives at Dale fresh from a relegation battle season with Halifax yet still having scored 20 goals. An impressive figure for such a struggling side.

Shaw had started his career at Wednesday and was around the club at the same time as Rory McArdle. With appearences limited he went on loan to York before a permenant move into the non-league at Burton where he scored 27 goals in 86 games. This attracted the attention of the Shaymen who snapped him up last season for an undisclosed fee.

Sadly there has ben a bit of a mixed reaction with a few people dissapointed we didn’t go for a ‘big-name’ striker. For me though this lad is worth a chance and could become a very good signing.

He’s been around a lot in recent seasons. You could do with another return from him like last season.
